TASMANIAN PICKLEBALL WARS
Published Sat 04 Nov 2023
Tasmania’s infamous North versus South rivalry will take centre court at Elphin Sports Centre on Sunday 5 November when some of the state’s most talented Pickleball players will battle to earn this year’s bragging rights. The trophy is currently held by the North, but they will face some fierce competition for the Southern team this year.
According to Pickleball Tasmania President Melissa Carlton, the Tasmanian community has welcomed the introduction of this new sport with open arms.
“Tasmanian Pickleball membership has grown from 8 people in 2021 to now almost 500 members in 2023. There are now 14 affiliated clubs or groups statewide starting with Smithton I the NW through to Port Huon in the far south. Most people start out playing socially at their local club but we are seeing a surge in tournament participation as the sport gains more exposure”
The matches for the North versus South competition commence at 10am on Sunday. Spectator entry is free.
